Well-said, Alex. I'm really thinking this through,...

If you’ve been paying attention to the legislation on health care lately, then you’ve no doubt heard that abortion will not be covered in the public option.
At first the decision by democrats to rule out government insured abortions did not spark much interest in me, but upon thinking about it more I asked this question: How will refusing low-income families a safe, cheap pregnancy...

Lies.
i thought the concept was pure brilliance, and the boy’s “coming to understanding” very moving…buuut i don’t know if it’s a movie i’d want to watch again any time soon. and i can’t put my finger on why.
why were you disappointed?

i want adventure in the great wide somewhere
i want it more than i can tell

to have someone understand
i want so much more than they’ve got planned

I guess it’s because I live where the blunt of the damage happened and our power is fine, the roads are mostly drained, and businesses are still open. It looks terrifying on TV, but living it is kind of boring.
You should’ve tried driving in it this morning when it was actually a storm and it was flooding everywhere.
Yeah, I think downtown/the south end/the west end were...

I quit my job today.
I have one month left of working at Suntime Pools West,
and I have absolutely no idea what will fill its spot.
Hopefully the universe provides something good.

It's an odd feeling...
…when you are still awake and the birds begin to chirp in the wee hours of the morning. I like it very much, though - there is an inspiring peace in this dark, birdsong-filled solitude. The beautiful breeze blowing through the window keeps reminding me that, in a week, my summer will have started. Hooray!
It is 3:20am. I had forgotten what it was like to stay awake until the sun comes up....
Old Louisville Coffee Shop
amga:
You pay $3.07 for a chai tea latte and in turn get a cup with one part chai and one part steamed water.
I’m not sure what this drink is called, but I can almost guarantee it is not a latte.
I’m fairly certain that all the drinks at Old Louisville Coffee House are one part chosen drink, one part hot, dirty water. One day, I ordered a mocha, and it tasted exactly like liquid...

Don’t read, unless you are incredibly bored.
today at work
i have organized all of our pool toys, working with kelly to incorporate new items onto the “toy wall,” as we call it.
i have organized our floating beverage holders, thermometers, and other plastic things that will probably give everyone cancer - accomplished whilst i inhale copious amounts of airborne chlorine and sodium hydrogen carbonate.
i am currently using a hand pump to blow...

Wild Geese
You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the...

Fall '09 Wish List
tonyhead:
I set up a “wish list” of classes for Fall ‘09, which I may or may not actually register for.
All classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays:
SOC 323 - Diversity and Inequality (8-9:15)
PSYC 372 - Social Psychology (9:30-10:45)
ANTH 340 - Human Rights (11-12:15)

PSYC 375 - Personality (2:30-3:45)
I think I could actually enjoy school…

Ya know that feeling when someone makes a small verbal dig at your personality so you get down on yourself (complete with a gut-wrenching twist inside your stomach)?
And later on you look for friends to appeal that comment, but the incision is still there?
So you sleep for 12 hours, you wake up and crave bowls of chocolate, your arms and legs feel the effects of gravity more than usual,...
Tonight: Logic. Tomorrow: Existentialism
shlewkin:
I met with my adviser, and in order to get my Philosophy minor done in time, we decided to throw a Philosophy class in to my otherwise Visually oriented semester (i.e. graphic comm, visual comm, web art, etc). I am currently taking Ethics with Dr. Berg (who is great), and he is teaching Existentialism in the fall, which fits into my schedule, so the decision was pretty much made for me.

Summer Day
Who made the world? Who made the swan, and the black bear? Who made the grasshopper? This grasshopper, I mean - the one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar out of my hand, who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down - who is gazing around with her enormous...
